SAFE WOMEN, STRONG SOCIETY – Awareness Programme Held at Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar on May 13, 2026

Gandhi Memorial College successfully organized an awareness programme titled “Safe Women, Strong Society” in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority under the aegis of the college’s Internal Complaints Committee (POSH Act).



The programme aimed to promote women’s safety, empowerment, legal literacy, and social awareness among students and faculty members. The event commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Prof. Fozia Hamid, Nodal Officer of the SHe Box, who highlighted the importance of creating safe and inclusive educational spaces.

In his inaugural address, Prof(Dr) Masood Ahmad Malik, Principal of the college, emphasized the collective responsibility of society in ensuring the dignity, safety, and equal rights of women. He underscored the need for awareness and active participation in building a secure and equitable social environment.

The session was enriched by the insightful deliberations of distinguished resource persons, including:

  • Adv. Laila Khalid,               Panel Lawyer
  • Adv. Nazia Ashraf Qureshi, Pro Bono Advocate
  • Ms. Urba Rashid,                 Assistant LADC

The speakers discussed various legal frameworks, rights, and institutional mechanisms available for the protection and empowerment of women. They also encouraged students to actively contribute towards fostering a culture of mutual respect, equality, and social responsibility.

The event proceedings were effectively anchored by Ms. Ayesha Zahoor and Ms. Ghamiz, students of the second semester, whose confident presentation added vibrancy to the programme.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Riyaz Andrabi, who expressed gratitude to the guest speakers, organizers, faculty members, and participants for making the event meaningful and successful.

The event reflected the institution’s continued commitment towards awareness-building initiatives that strengthen social values, gender sensitivity, and legal consciousness among youth.
