An awareness programme on drug abuse prevention under the NMBA campaign was organised by CWASC, Gandhi Memorial College in collaboration with District Administration Srinagar on 21st May 2026 at 12:00 PM in the Conference Hall of the college.



The programme aimed to create awareness among students and participants regarding the harmful effects of drug abuse, child welfare, public health, sanitation, and the importance of social responsibility. The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, officials, and representatives from various departments.

The following dignitaries and officials attended and addressed the gathering:

  2. Dr. Aasifa – Medical Officer, Health Department
  3. Shabina Shamim – Education Department
  4. Nasir Ahmad – Sub Inspector, Excise Department
  5. Snober Khan – Supervisor, Child Helpline, Department of Social Welfare
  6. Nafee Bhat – Supervisor, Child Helpline, Department of Social Welfare
  7. Manzoor Ahmad – Tax Inspector, SMC
  8. Abdul Rasheed – Ward Officer, SMC
  9. Mir Jeelani – Supervisor, SMC
  10. Nazir Ahmad – Supervisor, SMC

During the programme, the speakers highlighted the growing concern of substance abuse among youth and emphasized the collective responsibility of society, educational institutions, health agencies, and law enforcement departments in combating this menace. They also stressed the importance of counselling, awareness, and timely intervention to protect children and young people from falling into drug addiction.

Most of the session witnessed several queries and interactive discussions raised by the participants regarding drug abuse prevention, child protection, mental health, rehabilitation measures, and social awareness. These queries were comprehensively addressed by Dr. Khair ul Nisa, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, who elaborated on the role of the Child Welfare Committee, preventive measures, counselling support, and the importance of community participation in safeguarding the future of youth.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, appreciating the valuable contribution of all resource persons and participants. The event proved to be highly informative and successful in spreading awareness with the message: “Say No to Drugs, Choose Health, Choose Life.”
